Bucket List: 20 things to do when I get to Japan

Like many others, if you ask me where my dream destination is, it would be no other than the Land of the Rising Sun. Admittedly, I was pulled by the country’s culture from all the anime that I’ve been watching when I was a kid. But the main influence Japan has on me is that it inspired me to draw. Continue reading

At the End of the World, Siquijor

Coco Grove? Coco Grove?” asked the hordes of tricycle drivers who greeted us as we stepped outside the gates of Siquijor port. “San po kayo mag-stay? Ako na lang maghatid sa inyo? P250 lang“, another asked as I was losing my patience at their persistence. “Sa End of the World po“, I said. Gael giggled as she thought I was kidding. But I wasn’t. We really were headed to the End of the World… Guesthouse! Continue reading

En Route – Journey to the Island of Fire

It was as spontaneous as we could get. After our plans of going to Bohol got ruined, Renz and I immediately scrambled to come up with a new game plan. Good thing that an impromptu meet-up with RV gave us a glimmer of hope. Sure enough, one thing was certain by the end of our first night in Cebu… we were going to Siquijor! :D Continue reading

Surf’s up at Sabang Beach!

Going all the way to Baler and not finding time to surf is just ridiculous. RIDICULOUS! Staying a weekend at one of the nation’s surfing capital and not even grabbing the opportunity to learn how to ride the waves, or at least pretend to, is such a waste. But that’s exactly what half of us did, but with different reasoning. So call us ridiculous. We don’t care. Continue reading

Breakfast at Bay’s Inn Restaurant, Baler

After several minutes of walking along Sabang Beach in search for a good place to eat, the gang settled for one of Baler’s most recommended restaurants. From afar, one would not miss the flock of tourists that are dining at Bay’s Inn Restaurant. It’s a clear sign that this place has established itself well among the weekend visitors. However, it wasn’t our first choice.  Continue reading

Lukso-lukso Islets and Digisit Beach

One of our last stops in Baler was called the Lukso-lukso Islets and it was probably one of the highlights of the trip for me and I wished we really could’ve stayed a little longer because the scenery was just too pretty for words. Yet I will be using words to describe the place. Great.  Continue reading

Ermita Hill: It’s the climb.

In December of 1735, a huge tidal wave washed away the entire town of Baler. Thousands of lives were lost except for 7 families who climbed to the top of Ermita Hill and were saved from the wrath of the tsunami. Now these statues serves as a symbol of those who have survived the tragic disaster, and is located at the bottom of the hill. Continue reading

The most sulit dinner at The Rolling Stores

Up for a satisfying dinner that will cost you no less than a hundred bucks? In Baler, one of the most popular and well-loved foodie spots is neither a high-end restaurant or a fast-food chain. So where do these hungry surfers prefer to eat? At the local karinderya they call The Rolling Store! Continue reading

Pacific Waves Inn, Baler

It was a week before our Baler trip and we still have no confirmed booking for our accommodations during the weekend. I was afraid we’d run out of cheap places to stay there because the other inns were already fully booked but fortunately, Brenna was able to secure our group a room big enough for all of us at Pacific Waves Inn along Sabang Beach in Baler. Continue reading

A little bump and grind to Ditumabo Falls

An additional P300 and thirst for more adventure is all that it takes to see the humongous Balete Tree and Ditumabo Falls as part of your day tour in Baler. Since both sites are relatively far from Sabang, tricycle drivers would ask a total of P800/trike from your group. And I tell you now the waterfalls is worth the hour and a half time of getting there. It’s one of the key attractions there and missing it would be disappointing. Continue reading
