The final footsteps to Merdeka Square

Needless to say, my plans during the first day of my Kuala Lumpur tour did not go the way I wanted it to. In my original itinerary, I was already supposed to be sitting quietly in a bus going to Melaka, but there I was, profusely sweating as I made my way to Merdeka Square. And it was the second time when I truly felt like I was in a foreign land. Continue reading…

Putting an ALTernative look at Jamek Mosque

I’ve been walking around the streets of Kuala Lumpur the entire day, losing my way in turns and confusing street signs despite clutching 2 maps of KL in my hand. Trickles of sweat pouring down across my face continuously because of the hot and humid temperature in the metro. According to my map, the next stop is Jamek Mosque, one of the oldest mosques in KL. Continue reading…

My naked feet at Sri Mahamariamman Temple

One thing I find attractive in most Hindu temples that I saw in Malaysia is the life presented in the sculptures; awesomely detailed and coated in vibrant colors. From the online photos I’ve seen, I was lured to see the Sri Mahamariamman Temple with my own eyes and I was not disappointed when I laid my sight onto its facade. Continue reading…

Moments at the Vanishing Island of Samal

What’s more melodramatic than an entire island that vanishes into the night? Okay, so I’m not entirely sure when in the day it actually submerges into the sea but it does at one point and that’s the reason why it was called the Vanishing Island. So before it disappears for the day, we got a chance to stroll down its shore and create our own staged melancholic moments for the camera. Continue reading…

Cloud control at Osmena Peak, Cebu

There’s this little inside joke in the travel blogging community about me being a ‘dyosa‘ because of how it never seem to rain during my trips even though rain showers and thunderstorms were expected to fall that day. I never really took it seriously even though inside I keep praying for good weather just to maintain a good track record. But the unexpected really happened when me and my companions reached the top of Cebu’s Osmeña Peak. Continue reading…

A lonesome Lunch at Jalan Petaling

Jalan Petaling, or Petaling Street, is Kuala Lumpur’s Chinatown and one of the most crowded and busiest streets in KL 24/7. Apparently, it’s not enough that China’s one of the most overpopulated Asian country, they need to have their own crowded sectors in other countries as well. Fine. But since I’ve always loved our Chinatown because of the food, it was a no brainer for me to check this place… and pig out. Continue reading…

Lost in Malaysia

The chance of going on a solo trip has always crossed my mind since a lot of my travel friends have already done it and have recommended that it is a liberating experience. Some even said that they don’t see me as a solo traveler and it only fueled me more to take a stab at it. The crazy-stupid-beautiful thing about it is why I had to choose to do it in a foreign land! Continue reading…

272 steps to the Batu Caves

My friends have written before about their trips to Kuala Lumpur and one of the most prominent attractions that they talked about were the Batu Caves. From the photos alone, I knew that it would be a sight to behold and definitely a must-see in KL. So during my very first day, I made sure it would be the first thing I visit early in the morning. Continue reading…

En Route – Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Officers behind me are staring. Photo by Mica of www.senyorita.net

3 hours and 40 minutes. It was the longest plane ride I’ve had so far and you could just imagine how tense I was during the entire trip. Turbulent winds shook the plane every half hour but I know it’ll all be well soon. This was, after all, Airphil Express‘s maiden flight from Manila to Kuala Lumpur, and together with the Malaysian Tourism Board, I got the chance to experience my first international trip. Continue reading…

Cebu Food Trip: Kuya J’s Baked Scallops

For the love of Baked Scallops, the moment a Cebu-based friend of mine posted a photo of it online, ounces of saliva started dripping from my mouth and I immediately asked her the name of the restaurant where the photo was taken from. She told me that the food came from a hidden restaurant in Cebu called Kuya J. A week later, I booked a flight to Cebu. True story. Continue reading…
